Siglo XXI Project

Silva Tree is actively engaged in the ongoing governmental research program run by ANAM (the Panamanian governmental department of environment). The program involves the introduction of Paulownia to Panama as a new species, for the purpose of regenerating poor quality soils in which other less robust trees will not grow.

Siglo XXI Project - Elongata FlowerPaulownia Forest.

The research program will be performed at the Siglo XXI Project run by ANAM. The Siglo XXI objectives are to halt the degradation process of soils on government land, to transform degraded or unproductive land into productive sources of raw material (in the form of wood), and to improve the quality of air, water and biodiversity in the area. The project is also concerned with reinstating animal migration paths and habitats for the previously rich fauna in the area.

Because Paulownia is a very robust tree species, drought resistant and able to grow in severely degraded soils, it offers a perfect solution to the problem ANAM have been facing. If the experimental project is successful, Silva Tree plan to implement a Paulownia plantation on a grand scale as a major part of the Siglo XXI governmental reforestation project.
